Butter paper is a non-stick, moisture-resistant, and greaseproof paper used mainly for wrapping and storing food, as well as some light cooking and baking. While it is often confused with parchment paper or wax paper, they are not the same and have different uses.
Butter paper is made from cellulose fibers (wood pulp) that have been specially treated to resist oil and moisture.
Depending on its intended use, it can be coated in different ways:
Wax-coated: This type is coated with a thin layer of wax, such as paraffin or soybean wax, making it suitable for wrapping food and cold storage. However, it is not heat-resistant, so it should not be used in the oven.
Silicon-coated: Also known as parchment paper, this is a heat-resistant form of butter paper that is safe for oven use. Its silicone coating provides excellent non-stick properties for baking and roasting.
